How to choose a padel racket without guessing

Shape is only the beginning. Start with your level, your contact point, and how you actually win rallies.

Begin with forgiveness

A larger sweet spot gives you useful pace when contact is not perfect. For newer players, that consistency matters more than the theoretical power of a diamond head.

Round rackets usually place the sweet spot centrally and keep balance closer to the hand. They are easier to position and kinder over a long session.

Choose for your real game

If most points come from patient placement, prioritise control and comfort. If you consistently reach the net and finish overhead, a higher balance can add meaningful speed.

Ignore the player you hope to become for a moment. Buy for the player who will use the racket this weekend.

Weight is personal

A five-gram difference can be more noticeable than it sounds once the balance shifts toward the head. If your shoulder tires late in matches, lighter is usually the right compromise.

When possible, test a racket for a full session rather than a ten-minute hit. Fatigue reveals more than the warm-up.
